Where it's at
Although somewhat of a contradiction in terms, this book is a touching discourse from a father to a son on how to live life on his own terms. He gives his perspective on everything lofty that he ahs ever come in contact with but underneath it all is the suggwestion that this is merely his take, and the most important interpretation is a persons' own.

clear and simple, just the way life is, many examples
I'm still looking for my own copy, unfotunately I couldn't read it all, but what I read was very close to my own ideas and, I think, many of my friends. I liked very much examples from literature and History Mr Savater uses all along the book; congratulations.

The wisdom of a father...<BR>

The Etichs telled to a teen-ager with fairness and honesty.
A book that leaves the last word to a son who grows up.
A book to read, to discuss, to share with a son.
A must read for all the sons, parents, teachers and educators.

El Secreto De Los Toros: Una Novela
Published in Hardcover by Simon & Schuster (April, 1999)
Authors: Jose Raul Bernardo and Omar G. Amador
Average review score:

Easy read for intermediate-level spanish student
A delightful story written in a very straight-forward grammar style. Anyone who has studied Spanish through the subjunctive tenses can read and enjoy this book, and build vocabulary at the same time.

Etica Para Amador
Published in Paperback by Ariel Publications (February, 2000)
Author: Fernando Savater
Average review score:

Simple and clear, it will change your life.
This book is a guided tour through life. No cheap philosophy, no snob intelectuallity, just about living "the good life". If I had enough money, I would give this book for free to everybody in the streets, schools, parks and malls. Since I can't afford that, I just try to give it recurrently to every friend and family member. If you have children, this book is the most important present you could ever give to them.

Una Invitación a la Etica
Excelente libro. De muy fácil lectura y una verdadera invitación a la ética. No por principios religiosos, sino por ser la mejor forma de vivir la vida en sociedad. Una verdadera perla, no dejen de leerlo.

Sandinista: Carlos Fonseca and the Nicaraguan Revolution
Published in Library Binding by Duke Univ Pr (Txt) (March, 2001)
Author: Matilde Zimmermann
Average review score:

Great Job Matilde Zimmermann
This is the first book I read about Carlos Fonseca that has more accurate information about him, than any other book I have read.
I know this because I am the son of Raul Fonseca, but grew up with Carlos example and support. Carlos was the only father figure I ever had.

Quite a task Ms. Zimmermann. Congratulations.

I just read a few pages, but when I finish I will write a more complete review.

God bless you!

Just tell me what happened, I'll form my own opinion
This book pulls off a difficult feat, providing a balanced, neutral account of a subject about which supporters and opponents usually speak in strident, propagandistic terms.

Because of the absence of any preachy rhetoric, and the reliance on first-hand interviews and actual source documents, the author delivers a compelling portrait of a leader whose faithfulness to pure idealism in a struggle against a seemingly unstoppable evil system can be compared to that of Churchill, Gandhi, and King.

The Sandinistas were not the only group that took to the hills to arouse the populace in Latin America after the successful Cuban revolution, but they were the only group which actually came to power. Dr. Zimmermann's book is the story of the man who was the driving force behind the ideas, organization, strategy and success of their revolution.

She does not flinch from criticizing the Sandinistas for their initial ill-informed and patronizing attitudes toward the indigineous peoples of their country, nor for their slow acceptance of their female compatriots, nor for their many tactical errors and blunders.

Instead, this telling of the story of Fonseca and the Sanidnistas allows the reader to sense the very human feelings which became the basis of their appeal and allowed their success, even after Fonseca's death.

The Book of Tea and Herbs: Appreciating the Varietals and Virtues of Fine Tea and Herbs
Published in Paperback by Cole Pub Co (March, 1998)
Authors: Gina Amador and Minister of Information
Average review score:

A great "my first book of tea".
I first read this book while working at a coffee shop during those drifting years between high-school and college. The shop had just decided to jump on the bandwagon and start selling tea products. I took it upon myself to become the resident "tea man", since everyone else behind the counter knew "just a little too much" about coffee. Along with setting up the display I took a week to read this book which had come with it (presumedly for sales purposes) and familiarized myself with a new world.

This book above all is simple and easy to read. Most books on "luxury items" are impossibly burdened with talk about "this is from here" and "this region has this history", which is good for more advanced reading but will lose most entry-level people. This book is, on the other hand, strait to the point and clear.

One other nice thing about this book is what it isn't: blatent advertising. The cover, introduction, and conclusion feature the only mentions of the "Republic of Tea" or their sales promos. When I started reading I figured it would be a horrible smattering of slogans. It wasn't, and this was a relief.

I would recomend this above most other books on tea for its simple to understand presentation and overall readability. For those who know the basics, moving on to something more complete might be in order.

Shadow Star: Nothing but the Truth

Authors: Mohiro Kitoh, Christopher Lewis, Dana Lewis, tor Smith, Digital Chameleon, and Amador Cisneros

WOW!
One of the best manga's I've ever read! It's a great one! The characters are well created and I love the dragons! So kawaii! It does get a little confusing at times, so if you're just starting to get into manga, don't get this one (unless you can understand complex plots!). I would recommend this to people who like creatures, sci-fi, and heros/heroines that never give up! :)

Southwest Flavor: Adela Amador's Tales from the Kitchen

Downright Delicious
If you're looking for a New Mexican - Southwestern cookbook that is simple, authentic and downright delicious, then this book is for you. Adela Amador has done a superb job of compiling a collection of unpretentious recipes that are easy to prepare and elegant in their simplicity. She divides the book into seasons and provides wonderful recipes for New Mexican classics such as Green Chile Stew, Fajitas, Sopaipillas and Bizcohitos. In addition she includes some other wonderful recipes such as Cranberry Pecan Pie and Chile Pork Roast. Along with the recipes, she includes an anthology of delightful stories which chronicle her life growing up in New Mexico. It is a cookbook that you will actually want to read from cover to cover - I did. I also plan to buy several copies to give as holiday gifts this year. All I can say is - buy this book, you'll be glad you did!

Writers Anonymous
Published in Paperback by Quiet Vision (July, 2001)
Authors: Kori Aguirre-Amador and Joseph Bellofatto
Average review score:

An Enjoyable Comedy For All Sci-Fi/Fantasy Fans!...
I'm a big fan of sci-fi/fantasy comedy books, such as the MYTH books and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, so I thought why not try something new? Writers Anonymous is an amazing, incredibly funny book. It takes the conventions of fantasy books and turns them around in a clever way.

The main character, Atrail, is somewhat of a Conan spoof, big burly, 'everything that could go wrong with me' did kind of guy. The rampant clichés drive the characters to distraction until they start questioning their existence. I thought this was a pretty clever part about the book, bringing in the author who is attending one of those AA like meetings for writers.

The interaction between the author and Atrail is great. Atrail really comes off as 3 dimensional character. He actually reminds of the standard Edgar Rice Burroughs character. Unassuming, modest, yet tough and strong guy. The pictures are fantastic.

I completely recommend this book to anyone in need of a little bit of fun.

Amador: In Which a Father Addresses His Son on Questions of Ethics-That Is, the Options and Values of Freedom-And Attempts to Show Him How to Have a Good life
Published in Paperback by Owlet (September, 1996)
Authors: Fernando Savater and Alastair Reid
Average review score:

Very readable, clear-thinking, philosophical.
I'm on page 70 now, not quite halfway through this quick-reading little gem.

If a book doesn't grab me in the first three pages, I don't read it. I broke off reading Rebecca West's Black Lamb and Grey Falcon at page 680 to read this wonderful little book, which I bought and it is beautifully printed and bound. What a find! This man gently addresses his son as I would mine, but so much more clearly. He explains concepts like freedom and self-discipline, bringing in superbly appropriate quotations of the great thinkers, ancient and modern. This reminds me of the better philosophy courses I had in college. It was written so recently that he also refers to things we have in daily life such as computer games. This book is as accessible and lucid an introduction to ethics as I could hope to find. I am going to buy two more copies: one for each of my children.

Why on earth did they take it out of print so soon?
